Msmiz - I read almost anything!

What a Blog you say? Really you shouldn't have, no I am serious, you shouldn't.

I love that I have a place for a blog description.  I am not creative enough to blog, hence never blogging before.  I absolutely stink at well thought out reviews, but I read. I read A LOT.  It used to be more, I could average 800+ books a year.  But then the EDJ started asking me to put forth more effort for pay.  Bastards.

Written in the Stars

Most important here though is my rating scale.  I put forth a lot of 3 stars.  I would prefer a scale of 7 points measurement, hence my 3s are more like 3, 4, and 5 respectively.  In fact, most books that fall within the 3, I would like to take out to the 3rd, if not 4th decimal.  With that said, here is the basic summary of scale.

5- Beyond brilliant, would read again without question

4- Better than your average bear.  Would not hesitate to recommend

3- Do not be fooled.  These are books I liked but the fall into the category of:

     Cotton Candy for the brain

     Great story, needs editing

     Great characters, needs editing

Hit the right spot, needs editing

Could not quite get me there.  The story was just short of a home run.

Short stories.  While I do love a good Novella/short story, etc, it has to be AMAZING

to the Nth degree to knock it up to a 4.

2- Story, characters, and/or editing were not enough to pull it out.  My head popped up

and out of the story too often

1- Are you kidding me with this shit?

What I read

As the title professes, just about anything.  I prefer stories that take me out of real life.  I get enough of that at home. Thus, I tend to stay away from self help or theory based books.  I am a very character driven reader.  I like a good plot just like any reader, but for me, a story really wins if I can fall into the stories and feel the characters.

Enough out of me for now!

[REBLOG for those of you who live in Expensive Book Land & and always happy to promote good local shops!] Shoutout: A bookseller I officially love!

Please note: I am not in any way related to the company I'm about to talk about; I don't get any commissions or any benefits for talking about this bookseller. I simply want to share how happy I am with them with people who love books as much as I do.

So, to start this post I should tell you that I live in Bulgaria, a place where Bulgarian is the official language, and books in any other languages are often hard to find and are really pricey.

I completely understand how commerce works and that selling stuff needs to be profitable for you. However, I am a book collector, I buy books really often AND choose the editions (because of translation, quality, covers) very, very carefully. Of course, there are a lot of books in English (the language I mainly read in) sold in Bulgaria, but in 99% of the cases the book I want to buy is either not available at all, or is an edition that I don't want to buy and own.

Book cound differences....

After the great Import was complete, some folks made me do math.  There is a 568 book difference between GR and BL.  While I have made some updates there that are not here, it certainly was not 500 books worth.

*scratching head* why for? The next question is, do I care enough to figure out why or what to do about it?

Anyone have some brilliant ideas?

Hunting and Gathering

My house and neighborhood was established at GR.  The trees were grown, block parties were kick ass because we all know each other and our idiosyncrasies.  While kids have gone off to school, the core was still there everyday .

Now the dystopian future a la Revolution has begun at GR and we are scattered, trying to regroup and rebuild.  I find myself in the hunting and gathering stage where I am trying to grab at anything that seems remotely familiar.

So I guess what I am trying to say is, excuse me as I clutter Dashboards and try to find my book family as we rebuild the hood.

*dramatic much Tina?*

*Vibrating* with half stars!

So I want to be more excited about being at BL.  There are a lot of cool things about this place, even if it will takes me YEARS to figure it out. But what is the ONE THING we have bitched since the beginning of time for over at GR???

*****insert god like music here*******

Half Star

Now if only we could get 4 places after the decimal.  We bitches, just never happy right?

The Great Escape

I feel like I just got pulled from high school in the middle of my senior year.

Northern Star - Ethan Day Whoop Whoop!!! So happy!
Zipper Fall - Kate Pavelle

One reader summed this book up nicely - 'strange'. It completely and totally is strange. Therefore, it gets four stars as it sucked me in with all these odd twisty turny subplots and odd occurrences. It bounced around like a ball let loose in a rubber room, yet it was engaging and I wanted to know what came next with each page. This one stumps me!!!

The Magpie Lord - K.J. Charles This book hit all the right spots. Great characters, great stage set, fabulous plot line, and on top of it, well written. Can't ask for any more than that!
A Perfect Solution - A.E. Lawless 2.5
Re-Entry Burn - Katey Hawthorne 3.65
Spook Squad - Jordan Castillo Price So happy this is smacking us up in the face and we are not waiting months for the release after the announcement! SO SO SO SO SO happy. This is just.....ahhhhhhhhh
Glen & Tyler's Honeymoon Adventure - J.B. Sanders Fun, over the top story of two long time friends who wake up one day in love and decide to get married. The rest of the story is a suspend disbelief adventure of international intrigue, kidnapping, attempted assassinations, family issues and all around hand holding good time.
Aftermath - Cara Dee 3.7 The flashbacks in this story were very well done, well placed and gave me the experience to the MCs current emotional state in exactly the way it should be. I started to feel like the two MCs lost their 'self' at the end and the story became a bit to easy.

Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) - Ilona Andrews This is how it is done folks. Book 6 and I am still in love with the story and the characters. SO much happens in this story! It is both heart pounding and heart wrenching. The one really stand out component of this story line is Kate - she is strong and so damn smart, yet so insecure and vulnerable. These traits show themselves BIG time in the story. Kate has never been a bumbling simpering heroine (which I love), yet she makes some big ass mistakes still in the story. Her emotions and lack past love experiences really mess with her head. At one point I found myself screaming 'Kate, you are smarter than this'!!!!!

All in al a great addition to the story line. We learn so much more in this book, which will always keep me interested in a story line. We see a change in location, plots and politics abound, new characters that you will love, hate, and love to hate. I am definitely going to re-read this one!
